Default How can I (easily) sell some shares?

I've been paying into a share save scheme at work. I'll get some shares soon.

What's the easiest way to sell them?

In the distant past I had a paid for share trading account. Is there any way to sell the shares without paying and setting up such an account?

If it's a sharesave scheme they'll do it for you. Shortly before the scheme ends they'll send you a letter asking what you want to do (exercise your option to buy the share and then immediately sell em, do the same but keep em or get your savings cash back). All you do is tick option 'a' and wait for the cash.

If you're making more than a certain profit you'll be hit for capital gains tax, but that's only on the profit not the total sum.

I haven't sold any since 2000, but then I used an online service from Barclays, you told them what shares you had, sold them at an agreed price, you then sent them the share certificates and when they received them you got the money.

I've already done that part. I don't think there was an option to sell immediately. Or if there was I missed it....!

    Poor obs.

Might be worth a call to payroll.

When I did it, the company (BAE Systems), sent me details of an online Co. (Equiniti) that I could log into my share account with, and sell them. It was all set up in advance and pretty painless.

There was however a minimum period which the shares had to be held for, before you couod trade them in.

I think it's all run by the third party company and I suspect computer will say no.
