For the first time in 10 years something has happened, I had to dip into my own pocket to keep this place running. In other words supporter / advertising incoming didn't cover the costs of running the place.

Obviously this isn't sustainable so I have changed a couple of things:

    • There is now an adblock detector, it will display a nag every page view.
    • I have put the advertising banners in different places to see if it makes a difference.

I have never had, nor have, any desire or interest in making millions from TRC or even commercialising it in anyway. I just need it to pay for itself. The simple fact is that without supporter / advertising income this place ceases to exist, it really is that simple.

If you don't want to be a supporter (which removes advertising) please disabled your adblocker on TRC. I don't use annoying advertising techniques, and only make money when a banner is clicked, so help me out to make sure this place continues to be a cesspit of cantankerous old gits with hearts of gold for another 10 years.

    Let the ranting begin!!!

So that you don't have to disclose either the shortfall or the number of supporters, how much is the shortfall divided by the number of supporters?

I'm a freeloader, but have just subscribed (for the first time!).

I renewed my supporter status about 40mins before this thread - coincidence...I think not!
I don't have an adblocker but suppose I just filter them out subconsciously as it was only when I couldn't receive a PM today that I thought about it.

You could double the subscription and it would still be the best value I get on the internet.

Indeed. It's the 21st century equivalent of paying a Victorian penny to poke the lunatics in Bedlam.

Any way to make an annual direct debit/PayPal for that so it can't be forgotten? Turns out last time I paid was 2012.

It was 12 in 2009. You could easily up it a bit after 10 years

    12 a year, 1 a month, 23p'ish a week. Not really a lot, I'm sure a load more could/ should become supporters?

I'm sure a increase in the subscription, even a small one, would help keep the site paying for itself?

I think that is the best description I've ever read for forums in general!!!!

What a-morti said about the recurring thing. I quite often don't realise it's lapsed till I can't receive or send a message. But totally happy to subscribe. Also happy to pay more than 12.

Just paid 12.00 from my pension to Dragon Tree. Hope it is the right place.

I get annoyed with myself for forgetting to click the links below such as Screwfix and Amazon. I’m always using one or the other.

Must be old age. Screwfix sent me a 5.00 voucher off and I bloody well forgot to take it.

But beware of the Laffer curve. (Or does that just apply to taxes. )

I had to check if I had paid up or not (turns out I had), it is far too easy to forget.
