    Hi all,
Can I retrofit a shock absorber from a later model into my CBR600FX?
If so would it be much of an upgrade?
Forks will need respringing and revalving I'm guessing as not much can be done with them?

Fit a YSS rear shock if you're on a budget

It's more the forks. Bottoming out a lot and I know you can't do a lot to them so need respringing etc.

Rear shock is obviously Ohlins or WP etc but modern kit is so good I might just buy a 2nd hand one from a 2010+ CBR and refurbish that if it fits.

Could just get the original shock refreshed by the likes of MCT, K-tech, Kais etc - make a huge difference.
Get them to sort out the front end too whilst its in there...

Your forks are already adjustable cartridge forks. If they're bottoming out then the springs aren't strong enough and/or you need more rebound damping, however note that adding excess damping is also no good. Folk used to do this by putting 20w oil in damper rod forks, didn't work then any better than now.

New springs can be got for cheap enough. Pair them with new oil of whatever spec the spring makers recommend and you'll see a big improvement.

You'd need to see what shock is the same length, has the same ends, and a similar spring rate. It's not as easy as getting one off a newer CBR, particularly since they completely redesigned the swing arm for the RR models. Guess there will be a model specific forum or FB group where that info is available.
