I would hope that anyone being instructed to machine gun the migrants in their boats would refuse an illegal order. Assuming the navy do 'Values and Standards' and 'Operational Law'.

What does strike me as amazing however (if what I have read elsewhere is true), is that on being rescued from their boats, the people traffickers who just happen to be passing in their speedboats, are then allowed to 'salvage' the empty inflatables with their outboards and return with them to Libya. I've also read that this is one of the reasons the Italians don't like the 'rescue ships' as they allow this behaviour to happen, whereas the Italian Navy tend to sink the boats and chase away the dodgy characters back in the direction of North Africa.

FWiW I did point out when the Libyan attacks were started that I thought we were supporting the wrong side. Gadaffi might have been a bit of a despot, but how many people are now suffering compared to the number that suffered under his rule?

Yebbut a younger me got a good suntan out of that gig, so that was alright.

To be fair you're absolutely correct. The plan seemed to stop when Saddam and all the mechanisms of state had been removed with no thought for what would come afterwards.

Wow, they do speak openly don they! FB vid below.

Italy's deputy prime minister, Matteo Salvini insists Italy welcomes "women and children from Syria, Iraq and war" but unapologetically says:
"We can't fill Italy with Africa. The point is not about spreading them around our country, the point is to send them back to where they came from on the first plane we can find!"

The first sentence seems totally inconsistent with the last. How can you welcome them openly when their only stay in the country is the short journey from their landing point to the airport? If someone were to call at your house, you wouldn't welcome them openly by showing them to the side entrance and sending them on their way, would you?

Need one mention that this latest debacle is really nothing to do with migrants or the economy but rather to do with preparing the ground for the 2019 election of M.E.P's. The migrants are the fodder. That said, it seems to get people excited.

Would a politician ever not want to seek publicity?

I've always thought of you as right of centre, but I've never thought of you as mental .

Seems quite clear to me. Refugees = welcome. Economic Migrants = get on the plane home fella.

If they say that in public, what do you think they say in private?
In the bars, in the restaurants?

Didnt really talk to anyone in Naples, but in Sardinia the locals got pretty enraged when ever there was footage of the immigrants running amok! ALso loved seeing "ISIS bastardos" as the text on news channels! Couldn't imagine the BBC saying ISIS Bastards somehow!
