I'm eating my carbonara. It's a bit crap. Skimped on the cheese ("Basic" brand), used fresh pasta but I don't normally so got quantity wrong, too much pasta vs "sauce" so a bit gluey in the mouth, should have salted the "sauce" as well but forgot so it's a bit bland.

    Unsatisfactory .

Thanks. I can deal with the kilo/pound relationship. 18 to 22 quid a kilo sounds like US pricing. Normally what you spend a pound on costs us a dollar. If a motorbike is 8,000 GBP there it will be $8,000 here. Or $2400 less costly. I was looking for an 1190 KTM in the UK and they were going for around 12K GBP. In the US I can get one for $12,000 or 9,240 GBP. I would have saved enough to pay the freight to ship it to the UK and back and pay for the petrol to ride it around for a month or insure it for a couple of years.

Is that (the bike thing) simply 'cause of VAT? It's 20% on vehicles here (still - could be worse, its more than 100% in Denmark )

It's true of everything. The $ price of consumer electricals, guitars, clothes and tons of other stuff has near parity with the price in here.

That was true in the past but my recent experience of the US has been that's it's about equal now, excepf for the aforementioned tax.

I remember getting Levi jeans on Florida for 15 when o was a kid (when they were 40-50 here), in 2017 they were the same price.
