I think the best OS for an oldie is the one that their younger visitors use, as they'll be the ones who will be expected to show them how it works!

I did try and "live chat" the IT helpdesk on it yesterday. They just disappeared into the ether. It's not my computer, so fuck 'em, I say.

The tablet will have to be a Samsung one I think. Mother will sort of understand where the buttons are.......possibly...

I had a couple of Huawei mobs and wasn't hugely impressed ( terrible os and fookin slow) then my youngest got one a few years back ( honor 7 I think it was) and raved about it. So maybe they'll get another chance at some point.

I thought the up and coming young guns from the far East were the Xiaomi lot?

We are moving toward being a completely 'Honor' mobile household, initiated by my 19yo son.
Great phones at a very tempting price.
And yes, the Huawei mobiles junked most of the unnecessary OS overhead that crippled previous models.

    I've bought a Galaxy tab A, 32ghz with LTE. 198.
It is way over the top for what's needed but I know it will do what I need it to.
    Thanks for all the input!

Me too! There are a lot of foreign/refurbishrd ones out there. The LTE one is about twenty or thirty quid more than the WiFi one.
I've told Mother that she will be able to do shopping at Tesco from her armchair. She seemed quite interested. We will see!
