Who has used what with what success?

Thinking about adding white smart bulbs in the posh lounge in order to alleviate an issue with the wiring, i.e. the switch doesn’t switch off the light and I’m not planning on a rewire at this stage.

The light fitting uses 6 E14 candle bulbs so cost is a factor but reliability and ease of use are also important. Integration with Alexa would be useful as would as would a separate remote switch.

I've got hue with Alexa and they work great. Multi colour and dimming is voice activated as well as on and off.
At £50 a bulb they are not cheap though.

Thanks, so far I’ve looked at the Osram Smart+ / Lightify and Ikea TRÅDFRI, both of which use the same Zigbee tech as Hue but are a bunch cheaper, however, they both score poorly on review.

We've used these in series with the light switches that are problematic to extend and had no problems.

I did consider one of those but it would have meant either burying it under the floorboards, underlay and carpet or wiring it into the wardrobe, just in case it lost connection / we changed the WiFi...

    Update:

I have managed to bag a load of the white ambiance lamps on a 3 for 2 deal direct from meetthehue.com and a bridge from screw fix with 2 extra lamps for not much more than the Osram kit I have returned to Amazon.

I haven't picked up a switch yet, but given the more positive review of Hue over the others, I think we'll get on with Alexa / our phones/iPads controlling them. The two extra lamps will go in the bedside lights in our room t

I have the Hue system and am hugely impressed. If you are also running an Alexa/Google Home etc I’d highly recommend the IFTTT mobile phone app. Superb!

The bridge and two warm white lamps turned up yesterday, took 15 mins or less to set them up and get Alexa to control them. The next 6 are due to arrive on Monday, so I’ll be sorting the wiring and light fitting over the weekend ready to add them as soon as they arrive.

We use IFTTT to print the shopping list at the moment. I need to sneak it onto the wife’s phone so that her phone is turned off mute when she leaves work (thinking Bluetooth in the car as the trigger ) as she never answers her bloody phone!
