In general the bike goes onto a sidestand to go to pay so what is the point as the brimmed tank will overflow thru the excesss pipe.

Never fueled whilst on the bike*, can't imagine the amount of petrol you can fit in the tank can be that much different esp on the 690 where the bike sits fairly upright on the stand.

*I went into a old school garage where the bloke insisted on filling up my KTM 625 SMC. I think it had a 9 liter tank and as I'm telling the bloke this and how it doesn't take much he jams the nozzle in like a car and puts the flow on full. This resulted in a 2 ft eruption of petrol all over the bike, my crutch, him and his forecourt. This didn't change my mind about sitting on the bike.

Depends on the bike - The 900SS I always sit on as its the best way to brim it. My old Hornet was the same, you had to shake it back and forth to get the last couple of litres into it.
I never sit on the Triumph, its taller and also as its got 20 a litre tank, brimming it isn't really an issue.

Unless there's a card machine at the pump, obvs.

Always off the bike. Any spillages or spurts land on your kit; I can wipe bodywork down but leather or textile tend to absorb it...and I'm a smoker.

I always get off and I always take my helmet off.
Some garages ask you to and some don't, but it's hardly a hassle and it saves them having to ask.

I fill up sat on the bike as well, always have done. It wouldn't bother me if I had to stand and fill it but, not come across a petrol station yet that hasn't been happy for me to fill up whilst seated.

I always get off. Not sure why, but I do. Even for pay-at-the-pump. But I never take my helmet off - and am irritated if asked to, especially with an open flip-front. In fact I try not to use garages that I know will want the lid off.

It's embarrassing when they tell me to put it back on sharpish.

My local filling station is 100% unmanned so I can stick the filler up my blowhole and teabag the tank if I want.

Only use pay at pump stations and always get off the bike. Never even thought about staying on the bike to fill up, or even seen anyone else do that?
