I ran an Audi S4 - 4.2 V8 for 5.5 years. It was remapped and had a full Milltek exhaust system and sounded great. Once was told it sounded like a Spitfire but that was over the mark. I used it for a few track days, 'ring trips, Euro driving holidays and everyday use. Really enjoyed that car. Kept it so long as I thought it might be the only time I had a V8.

Is that the one with the camchain (which needs replacing IIRC) at the back of the engine?

It's an engine out job. I had a noise related to it at cold temps and it was sorted under warranty. Never thought about the chain again.

Any front end nudge would have been expensive!

Some engines just aren't meant to be worked on. There are US pick up's where they just remove the entire cab (6 bolts & a few electrical connectors etc apparently) to work on the engine.

That sounds like a good idea tbh!

Not sure it would work with a normal car though
