    Who'd have thunk it!

Everyone loves to belt out a bit of Jingle Bells or Do They Know It's Christmas when celebrating with their loved ones ahead of the festive holidays.
However, some of these sing-a-long classics are now being deemed offensive, with some even coming with a warning on YouTube before you click to watch them.
Some of the lyrics in the songs are apparently offensive to women, the LGBTQ community and Africa.
As reported by Devon Live, an American radio station has now banned Baby It's Cold Outside from their playlist in light of the #MeToo movement because they say that it tells the story of a man pressuring a woman into spending the night with him when she wants to leave. The song, which dates back to 1949, is a duet between Ricardo Montalban and Esther Williams in the 1949 film Neptune's Daughter.
One line from the song that has been highlighted in 'Say what's in this drink?' which has been associated with date rape.

Lee Thompson, a music consultant that has worked in radio and television for over 30 years, told the BBC that debates over these songs have grown in recent years. He said: "It only seems to be in the last few years that the sensitivity around particular songs are magnified. I think social media is responsible for magnifying these arguments nowadays. "Some people think, 'since this is my interpretation of the song, therefore everyone else needs to think its the correct interpretation of the song'."

Another song to face criticism is Fairytale of New York by The Pogues featuring Kirstie McCall - which has previously been named the country's favourite Christmas song. Back in 2007, BBC Radio 1 even edited out the words "faggot" and "slut" from the track.

As for Do They Know It's Christmas by Band Aid, the video now carries a warning on YouTube before you can play it.
Journalist Bim Adewunmi wrote in The Guardian in 2014: "There exists a paternalistic way of thinking about Africa, likely exacerbated by the original (and the second, and the third) Band Aid singles, in which it must be 'saved', and usually from itself. We say 'Africa' in a way that we would never say 'Europe', or 'Asia'."

Meanwhile, Professor Kyna Hamill of Boston University has published a research paper outline the racist origins of Jingle Bells, which was originally performed in blackface in a minstrel show.
The professor claimed that the song was used to make fun of black people in the show.
