Plan is 63 when the young un should finish university .
We would like to spend more time with my wife's parents in Japan(they are both 82 and keep themselves very busy ) - ideal is 6 months here and 6 months there -hopefully we can do it but it may turn out to be a pipe dream.
We will downsize and and may move out of the smoke at some point ...

Part time at 60 I think (3 days a week) when two pensions kick in, then see if I stop enjoying work. Jammy BiL is going in April at 55, he could have gone earlier but moving it to the next financial year saved him about £8K, he fortunate to have worked at BAe since his 20s be on a final salary pension and taking voluntary redundancy.

    Retire and do what?

You're relatively young, what are you going to do with the rest of your life?

Seems a bit of a waste to sit on a volcanic rock idling it away. You must have some ambition left, surely? If not you might as well call t a day now.

I retire this summer aged 51

My pension will allow me to drop to part time working if i want for the next few years to keep occupied and top up the funds so i can enjoy life rather than just survive financially. My mortgage runs to age 70 but like Silly i intend to overpay it to knock the duration down quite a bit.

Despite having 6 months to go i have no plans laid out yet but i do have a few offers of work completely away from my usual experience that, in addition to pension, will bring me to my current income on 3 days a week with no outstanding debt which i currently spend a fortune managing every month.

Yes i am looking forward to it

As much or as little as I want

Got a 5 bed villa in huge plot to maintain. Built huge workshop for the bikes, which need fettling and riding. Dog needs lots of walkies. Got 4WD car to play in.

The list is endless on a beautiful island where it's minimum 20c every day in winter.

My plan was always 55 from a young age - always sounded a good age to still enjoy life to the max, and working for the railway had a decent FS pension.
Unfortunately divorce and the end of most FS pensions now mean a different outlook - hoping not to have to work too far in to my 60ís but you never know now!

Not much I was there for a day in October to hand the camper to my brother. It's changed a hellua lot.
The drive to the aiport was beautiful, but was freezing cold. Couldn't wait to get home.

I loved Yorkshire, but now happy to admire from afar

I always thought 50 or 55, now I'm 50 and although we don't have a mortgage I'm still too young to retire and can't really afford too...that is can't afford to and still do lots of things. I've dropped to 2-4 days a week now and even then only 4 hours or so a day, this is fine for the next 5 years when I'll see how I feel. At the moment I can see me properly retiring at 62.

That's my concern. I could retire today, but then I'd have to sit in economy class with all the other oiks.

Edit: That should have been a . I'm not that much of a twat.
