Lastly i'd want more green, not sure why, but i need green in my life. I've spent 3-4 holidays in Lanz and whilst it was ace for the time, i couldn't live there longer term.

    Warm though, yes, i'm in.
Where we are there are hundreds of mtb trails. We go on them. Plenty of road miles as well. It's only 30 mins on ferry to FuertaVentura where there are stunning roads. We love it.

I always wanted to race MX. Now I need to sit and prefer it anyway.

Nah, there's hundreds of trails there's not hundreds of MTB trails

Trails need woods, roots, rocks, trees.. I've MTB'd over your way to as high up Timanfaya (sp) as we were allowed, down the other side and through a few villages and back to the seaside... It was a lovely day out... but none of it was on MTB trails... .

I see what you mean. But Timanfaya is not typical of the island. Much different in the north. I've plenty of pals who ride here. I go out plenty as well.

    Looks nice...

Garajonay National Park, a mysterious, misty cloak of ancient laurels and carpets of fern

My father retired early and took up as a casual groundsman with the local council; he enjoyed the exercise, being outdoors and a sense of achievement (in terms of the floral displays they start in spring). So much so that he is on a long term project on his own gardens and he does tidy ups for his neighbours. He was never up for gardening much when we were younger.

I think Tiepin has it right.
As a younger bloke I would have baulked at a winter hideout place in Spain, it definitely wiffs of wrinkly pensioners and coffin dodgers - but at my age now it sounds like a dream. Spend summer at our house in the UK and winter in Torromolinos playing bingo, drinking cheap ale and dodging Jack Frost.
My dad looked into this as a way on saving on fuel bills (they live in an old Edwardian house which is hefty to heat through winter).

Wintering abroad used to be very popular. When I was in car sales, my car cleaner would annoyingly piss off to Benidorm for dec -jan on one of those long term, reduced rate holiday schemes aimed at pensioners. He reckoned it saved them money on heating the house etc. Dunno if the hotels still do them now though, as southern Spain seems to be a year round destination now?
