What I says on the tin...ISTR a few people on here buying a kit with a couple of whetstones and a few other doodads that are really good.

I've got a few half decent kitchen knives that ain't that sharp any more. I also got a new Global Ukon knife for Christmas that's pretty spiffy (ATM). I used to have one of those two wheel type sharpeners but Global claim they're incompatible with Global kit cause of the different edge angle on their knives? It's a moot point cause I broke it anyway by dropping it an smashing one of the ceramic wheels

I'd like to get something new to keep my stuff sharp. Anyone remember which kit I'm on about?

I use a traditional steel. It seems to work well. I'm not sure about top end knives or any such.

Aside from not being able to alter the sharpening angle to suit the knife you're sharpening...

On their own site they state sharpening angle from factory is between 10 & 15 degrees, which is pretty common for jap knives.

The lowest angle that lanskey system has guides for is 17 degrees.

However, the below should sort the angle issue out for once & for all. And it is important to keep to it.

Oh look-along the way I found a low down & dirty but zero cost way of getting your angles right:

That's just a bit o' the old trigonometry innit...I was wondering if maybe there was more to it, but simple is good.

I'm now thinking that for the 50 quid a Lansky kit costs I can get quite a few whetstones. Fortunately I've got a couple of half decent but blunt knives to hone* my skills on.

*No pun intended. Well......maybe just a little bit
