I treated myself to a 6 button mouse for use on my mac with google sketchup.

    How do I configure it?

I've downloaded USB overdrive, but either it doesn't do what I want it to or I'm too thick to use it !

As it stands, the left and right click buttons work perfectly

the two thumb buttons, down and right press on the scroll wheel all have the same function (different function to the left and right buttons)

The scroll wheel doesn't do anything !

I've contacted the mouse supplier, but it's a cheapo Chinese jobbie so I'm not holding out much hope !

Good question. I was a long time user of USB overdrive but it didn't work for me with the particular HP mouse I ended up with. So I binned it and now (I just checked) I don't have any third party configuration - and the mouse works perfectly! The main configuration I need is the "option" button under my thumb so I can switch sketchup behaviour from moving/scrolling the page to moving the object with the move tool.

Everything else just works, scroll wheel, wheel button etc. Try disabling USB overdrive.

So I don't have to select different actions from the menu bar at the top of the screen every time I need to change.

Have you tried configuring your keyboard to select the different tools? I’ve tried one of the multi button mice and never could get to grips with it. I’ve configured my keyboard to do all the main tools and it works really well.

Have you used a graphics tablet instead of a mouse? I've not used SketchUp, so don't know whether it's appropriate, but for freehand drawing it's far, far, better than a mouse.

Typically they have a button or two as well as the 'nib'.

I initially tried to just 'plug and play', when that didn't work I went googling and that's how I found USB overdrive!

I'm starting to think the mouse is faulty, no matter what I do the scroll wheel doesn't work, I've contacted the seller.

That is the most likely issue, they generally just work, especially a major function like scrolling...
