Booked my first trackday for this year for Saturday as the Beeb are forecasting good, spring like, weather for the weekend, though it's foggy here at the moment.
Anyway, only 69.00, so if the weather turns crap I haven't lost much.
FZR400 is ready to rock, new leathers are ready to wear, I'm ready to potter round at barely off vertical.

I've got my Trackday mojo back, today was brilliant, bit of misty start but soon brightened up, my little FZR400 was brilliant, I've never passed that many people on a track day before.

Quite a few people coming off though, which caused some red flags, I think people were having trouble with the changes in track temperature, as the day was cold, warm, cold.

Nope, 400 race replicas are just right for me, overtook a GSXR1000 today, it's the rider that matters, not the bike.

I couldn't keep up with the instructor on his race CB500.

    Write Up

Loaded the bike on my trailer and left mine at about 06:45, drove through the fog, past Rudolphs and got to Snetterton at about 08:00, still foggy.

Signed on, had the usual piss taking followed by briefing.

Went out for sighting laps at about 09:50.

First proper session at 10:40, came round for my 2nd lap and the session was red flagged, so I came and lined up for restart, restarted and was among loads of slow people, I was overtaking people on braking and accelerating out of the corners, one bloke on a white GSXR1000 was a real pain to pass because he had loads of power, I passed him coming out of the left hand hairpin, last time I saw him.

Next session I went out at the front of the pack to avoid the slow people on fast bikes, plenty of faster riders passed me but I only got held up by one person on a mini twin, passed him under braking. Lots of quick bikes pass me on the straights for me to catch back up in the corners, but not enough for them to hold me up.

Two sessions after lunch much the same as the one before lunch.

3rd session after lunch, the sun has got low making parts of the track difficult to see, so I decide to come in, but then the session gets red flagged, saw the bloke who'd fell off by the side of the track, the way he was holding his arm makes me think he broke his collar bone, his bike was laying on it's side a bit further up the track, I think it was an Australian bloke I was talking to earlier in the day.

Came back to the paddock, packed up and went home as I didn't fancy the last session, the sun was low and it was getting cold.

My FZR400 is a great track day bike, it handles superbly, has enough power, but not enough to make it a handful, the brakes are incredible, loads of power and feel. It has Maxxis Super Diamond tyres fitted, which were fine, I had one small slide on the way into Russell's on a cold tyre, but it gave loads of warning. I could probably do with a gripper front tyre as the bike was trying to run wide on corner exit when accelerating hard. I'm going to stick some foam on top of the seat as I found the footpegs a bit close to the seat, making getting my left foot in the right place a bit tricky at times.

FZR was the loudest bike in the novice group due to thrashing it so hard, let's hope the red line is a guide line, FZR happily revs to 16K, red line is 14K, later on I kept a better eye on the rev counter.
