AP Reports they have found the black box but they say it is damaged. I thought they were as good as ‘indestructible’?

I see Indonesia has now joined China in grounding their aircraft.

There's generally two I believe, and even damaged, they still normally hold data - well that's my understanding anyway.

It's the second 737 MAX 8 to go down in a similar way.

    https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/10/afric...ntl/index.html

Sunday marked the second time in less than six months that a new Boeing aircraft crashed just minutes into a flight. A Lion Air Boeing 737 MAX 8 flight went down over the Java Sea in last October, killing all 189 people on board.

Both crashes are under investigation and there is no evidence of a link between the two, but similarities in the incidents have prompted caution among some airlines.

"Given in both air crashes, the aircrafts were newly delivered Boeing 737 MAX 8, and both accidents occurred during the take-off, they share certain similarities," the Chinese administration said in a statement.

An expert (John Strickland) on WATO said two sensors were insufficient. He said that if one showed a fault when there was none there should be another to knock it out or to use his exact word: address the faulty sensor.

Lucky for Ryan Air that their planes have not yet been delivered.

I think I heard that there have been ~5,000 orders for the 737 MAX with ~350 delivered.

ISTR it's the most pre-ordered aircraft in history.

I have no doubt Boeing will get to the bottom of it.

Looks like Boeing have been "getting to the bottom of it" for some time ...

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/201...-ground-plane/

US to mandate design changes on Boeing 737 MAX 8 as others ground plane after crashes.

The company confirmed it had for several months "been developing a flight control software enhancement for the 737 MAX, designed to make an already safe aircraft even safer."
Don't imagine the 346 dead people would consider this to be a "safe aircraft".

The first leg of our journey home next week is in a Boeing 737 , but it's the 737-800.

    Here's hoping.

Let's hope Air France didn't order any/have any as they have a history of ignoring policy instructions and safety notices from aircraft manufacturers.
