Sounds like a (weak, selfish and paranoid) attempt to dismiss any or all issues as conspiracy theories and enable people to avoid taking responsibility for their actions.

The scientific community / quality peer reviewed literature seemed to make its mind up on this some time ago.

Where have you been? I posted that two months ago. I've changed my underwear and my mind at least five times since then.

The scientific community has been wrong before.

OK I'll bite. When has such a consensus, with such a breadth of supporting data ever happened before - and been incorrect?

Well I suspect the data were not available so it was faith rather than science that gave us a geocentric view. Galileo and Copernicus held a different view....

What was their view based on? Data. One bunch had (simply? wilfully?) misinterpreted it

No but what it means is there is a paper trail for observations, data, assumptions, probabilities etc. and then finally a theory with models and predictions. So if the predictions don't add up perfectly you go back down the chain until you find and error or make a new discovery. This is how science works and human knowledge makes progress.

What level of confidence can I have in your "opinion" compared to the above? As close to zero as makes no difference I should expect since my guess is all you have to offer is "yeah but they've been wrong so it's not true".
