    Hello
first posting to ask for help sucks i know and apologies but i could really do with some input on this.

Ive got a 2000 yamaha sr custom and having a starter issue im wondering if anyone could maybe shed some light on this for me ?

Basically up until a few days ago it ran fine however one morning after a short run out it wouldnt start. I checked for loose wires etc cleaned some gunk out of the side stand cut out switch and about 10 mins later it started so i assumed it was the issue and rode on.

tried to ride it today wont start at all same issue single click from the solnoid battary was a bit weak so charged it to full. still no joy
Lights work, horn works although does go quieter when lights are on and is used, the bike will start and runs fine from a jump start so took her out for a good hour run got home, took out key tried started and single click again.

i figured it might be an issue with the battery However whats throwing me is if you put the bike into second gear, and slightly roll forward, maybe a foot, stop and use the starter it struggles and whirs for a few seconds then starts up, soon as you cut the engine and try to start again... single click.

any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated before i buy a new battery

Agreed new battery. Volt meter will confirm bet it is less than 12.5v and when you thumb the starter will drop dramatically

    Yup.

Wants to be 12.5+ at rest and keep above 10v when cranking. Bet it's not.

I suppose conceivably it's the charging circuit that isn't working, rather than a duff battery. Five minutes with a multimenter would determine which.
(But I agree with them lot ^^, probably the battery)
