I suspect the range issue will fairly soon be solved by either better batteries or faster charging, or both. Then the only thing holding us back will be bikers' conservatism.

A motorbike without combustion engine is like a bed without pillow.

To what characteristic of a bed without a pillow are you comparing an electric motorcycle?

    To what chara.....?

A motorbike without a combustion engine was invented before a motorbike with one. They weren't successful because of the problem of battery range.

How long have people been saying that? Currently power density is the big issue, because nobody has yet come up with a lighter, more compact, more handleable and more easily replenished system than a tankful of flammable liquid and going suck squeeze bang blow. Think about it, the latest generation Li-ion batteries rely on moving electrons around by reversible chemical reactions, same as Mr Faraday's cells 200 years ago. It's like saying steam engines could be viable power sources if only we could develop them to be more compact, higher pressure, etc. Sometimes you have to accept that in developing technology so far you're up against a law of diminishing returns and starting from a totally different place is the only way to achieve a workable solution. Like replacing steam engines with IC engines, or replacing batteries with....?

Come back to me when you've worked out the answer, not to mention how to generate and distribute all the energy.

Nice niche, shame about the hype.

That reads to me, Tomcat, as a post by someone who - for whatever reason - really hates the idea of electric bikes. Happy to be talked out of the assumption...

Saw one of these Arc Vectors at a bike show today, photos don't do it justice, the bodywork is a beautiful combination of cf and burled wood veneer. 90 grand! Comes with one of those heads-up lids to display the gauges and a jacket that taps you on the shoulder to warn of anyone on your rear. As if?

There was more affordable leccy stuff obviously but this was one of the few times ive seen a bike and wanted to write out the cheque there and then....

Btw the designer said cruising at 80 itll do 120 odd miles, with a 45min recharge.
Tbh i think your arse would be complaining by then anyway as the seat was pretty minimalist.

Y'mean like would be handy for electric light aircraft? Maybe they could name it after some type of small bat? Oh, hang on a bit...

Also it depends on what range you want out of a bike, electric trials bikes are already pretty good and as they only do a few miles on a tankfull changing them to electric isnt so much of an issue.

I’d like the wife to go suck squeeze bang blow!

    What was the question again...

Iím tempted with the KTM Freeride thing. Just haggling for a free spare battery as the range/recharge combo is pretty shit. If they say yes, I think Iíll take the plunge.
