    The second reflection is about the weather. Lake District means rain. One needs to embrace the concept and accept it as part of the landscape

    What about Thirlmere, is a resovoir a lake?
    Especially when it is an artificially depened natural lake, or possibly two natural lakes?

    If you're in that area again Hodge Close Quarry is worth a visit.
    Basically its a bloody deep hole in the ground almost half full of water.
    110 foot of water and at its highest point you can be standing at the top of the cliff above it 150 feet above the level of the water.
    There used to be a good abseil from that highest point dowt to a steel staging about two feet above the water but a few years ago the staging fell in the water and nowadays you would land in the water so I've not abseiled it recently because of that.

    Theres tunnels going in and out of it, some of which are handy to get into the water level.
    Don't lob stones in there though as there's often divers in there and just cos theres no bubbles coming up doesn't mean theres nobody down there, they could be coming out of an underwater tunnel.
