My point here was simply that he paid for service. In that case, two staff for an hour, with all the stock to play with. If that isn't paid for somehow, shops close. Then how will anyone 'try before they buy'?

AAMOI, how did you try the the John Ryan mattress before buying online? [No, I don't mean their 60 day trial offer]

    What is your point?
That online doesn't always = 'cheap'.

I have recently purchased 3 new beds from Bensons for Beds made by a company called Staples, i think it's their top of the rang line and we went for the Heirloom range (which they have now changed the name something more trendy i think), well we got 2 double beds and one king size, the mattresses alone were around the 1500 each for the doubles and our king size was around the 1700 mark, not too sure what the bases and draw units etc were but i gather its just the mattresses your interested in, i have never purchased cheap beds or anything else for that matter), but these beds are amazing, you certainly get what you pay for and they are the best i have ever slept in and i do change my beds on a regular basis, i don't do internet and i don't buy from the back of a van. I am not sure what your budget is but buy the very best you can afford and try out them in a shop beforehand to ensure you get the best combo of firmness and model of bed, i was told many many years ago that you buy cheap, you buy twice and i find this to be as true today as it was back then.

Talk with them describing weight, age, height etc. and buy with 30 day money back guarantee.

The chap concerned would not wanted to have gone through that process. As I said, he was content to pay for service.

Bought mine off a couple scousers selling them out a back of a transit! They came round to one of my yards flogging them and I didn't buy but they came round to a different yard about 9 months later, with exactly same spiel about overstocks, and knocked them down from 300 to 60. Seemed worth a punt, not sure if the silent night tag is genuine or ironed on afterwards but its comfy enough. Should be coming to an industrial park or office block near you any time.

Any fool can be uncomfortable and if you make your opinions based on crappy porn or Carry On movies then you are, pretty much, a fool.

    Another vote for Tempur.

Not cheap, take a while to get used to, but IMO worth the money and adjustment period.

Because IMO their service is worth paying for. Having bought stuff online and then had to return it and the ball ache that that inevitably entails, being able to go into a shop, lie on a few and then pick the one you want. Have them deliver it and remove the old one is worth it. It's the same with TV's or my last hoover, I checked online and their price was comparable, comes with their guarantee. I might add that this is from someone who does 90% of his shopping online, everything from food to tech, except for big ticket items or white goods.

A three hundred pound mattress for sixty quid? Wow....I'll be keeping an eye out for those fellas.
I likes a bargain, me, and at that price, what could possibly go wrong?

We bought an 'Emma' online about two months ago. It's lovely, not too warm, firm and suits us very well. Would buy again.

Yup. Those people at the post office counter can get really pissy when you try and post a mattress wrapped up in brown paper . . .

Thanks for your replies, I'm a little less fazed than I was at the start. Irie's steer to 'John Ryan' is really appreciated, they do make a very good sales pitch and tune you to the mattress which others don't seem to do, reminds me of when my Mum would take me to Clarks when I was a kid to buy shoes vs popping into 'Office'. The others are under consideration too as I can imagine lying on a 'John Ryan and thinking that I could have flown Business Class to Thailand for a two week luxury break for the same money

I have a latex IKEA mattress that came with a 25 year guarantee, I was worried it seemed a bit too cheap (as with all their mattresses) but 12ish years later it's still doing well with no sign of deterioration.
