Try leaving it on charge for a good long while (days).
My Xperia has been playing up for a while. Yesterday in typical fashion, I was on a MTB ride out so had set a tracking app and locked the phone. Next time I looked at the phone an hour later, it was in airplane mode and torch was on !. Unsurprisingly the battery died completely before I got back to civilisation.
Now the phone will only charged when plugged into my macbook (which has the xperia companion app). I've tried multiple chargers, and leads but nothing else works?
I've done the hold down volume up and power button reset, but to no avail.
Suggestions please (that don't include "buy a new phone").
cheers
Try leaving it on charge for a good long while (days).
Get a paperclip or sim tray tool and poke all the pocket fluff out of the charging port... you won't be able to see it, but it'll be well manky inside.
Try charging it underload, ie torch on, if it has enough battery left to try this?
There's two 'types' of charge.
USB and AC, some Androids tell you which is which on the power settings screen when charging.
The difference is the supplied amps. USB charging only provides 500ma where as a mains charger will provide 1000ma+.
So for some reason your phone is only working on USB (it also takes twice as long to charge).
Well it's still doing it
I can't leave it on charge for days as I need to use it, but I have been able to leave it still plugged in after reaching 100%.
I've also got an odd symbol on the status bar I can't identify or get rid of, it's a white square with a sort of staggered 'N' in it !
This one?
Noise cancelling if it is?

NFC turned on?
Once it gets to 100%, how long does it last OFF the charger?
What have you got turned on?
3g? GPS? WiFi? HotSpot? NFC? Screen Brightness? Bluetooth?
Everything uses power, even it's not 'in use'. If I turned EVERYTHING on, my Z5C wouldn't last 5 hours, even if none of it was 'active'. All of these services are 'active' even when not connected - they're always looking for something to connect to, (called 'polling').
I normally turn the connection services off if I'm not actively using them to connect to something.
Do you know if you're using the original 'Launcher' system? (Don't know how 'geek' you are - do you know what a launcher app is?)
Finally cured it !!
I let the battery run out completely then left the phone plugged into the mains and a few hours later it started to take charge!
Bizarrely it now won't charge from the laptop but tbh that's really not an issue for me.
