I was talking about drag racing this morning and my wife recounted her experience of when she watched me drag race, I have no recollection of this, I thought I'd stopped drag racing before we met, I can remember (with no detail) going to the 1991 Ultimate Street bike at Santa Pod with her but thought I only spectated, guess I must have raced that day, this means I've drag raced a GSXR750 but cannot remember it and have no idea what times I did. Her memory of it is really detailed and sums up drag racing - lots of queuing with very brief bits of racing.

Bizarrely, I can remember the ride back from Santa Pod and she can't - the fairing came loose on the GSXR and someone on a bike stopped to help us, took us round their house and lent me an Allen key, then we stopped at a Little Chef (that's no longer there) had pancakes and ice cream which, because they took ages to come, they didn't charge us for.

There's a few drunken conquests that I've managed to forget

I can remember nothing of my primary school. Kids I went with, teachers, nothing.

It doesn't worry me but is strange when my sisters seem to remember every little detail.

Apparently I fell out with the wife last night.

    Don't recall any of it.

I blame the Costco own brand rum.

I knocked myself unconscious in a bike accident when I was younger. I was about 20 and I think that did break some, but not all, memories of my teens around 15-19 years old, but no other periods in my life?? E.G. Sometimes people pop up on facebook and I have no idea who they are or what they are talking about. Then something will "switch on" either then or sometime later and i'll get a new range of memories come slowly but surely back. It's really rather odd when it happens. Its nothing like soemeone jogging your memory about an event.

My long-term memory is very good, but I'll forget something that happened yesterday as easy as. Ask me about yesterday in 20 years time and I'll remember every detail.
If I hadn't been like this all my life, I might worry that it's a form of dementia.

I had one aged 16, I remember shortly before it and waking up in the ambulance but that’s it..

I've forgotten a few minor things but nothing important. I had a relative ( now dead) who had a complete mental breakdown with almost total memory loss. He didn't know who he was, or any of his past life although he hadn't lost his language skills. Even eating food was a new experience for him as he would what something was and then try it. No-one was allowed to tell him anything about himself to avoid planting false memories unless he asked a specific question like "Did I do....?." Then they could say yes or no. He never did get all his memory back.

I'm wondering what else I've forgotten, and worse whether I'm making some memories up IYSWIM, for example, if I now start "remembering" riding a GSXR at Santa Pod it will be completely made up by my mind and be fiction.
