I had a Nava helmet with a thumb wheel operated visor. I still think it was/is a good idea. And a silvered Bob Heath visor. White Ashman paddock boots too.

Can't remember much about the rest of the kit

I notice that no one has owned up to owning a Yes motorised visor helmet!
Anyone else end up with red/blue hands courtesy of Frank Thomas after a good solid downpour?

I never really bothered with dedicated bike gear, util the late 90s. I just had some old jet helmet, a leather jacket, jeans, and Docs. I had some plastic over-trousers that always leaked.

They did one with a rather clever 'pop-out' hinge... when you flipped it down, it initially sat about a centimetre from the helmet - completely cured misting up although it rattled a bit behind the fairing. If you wanted it closed you just pushed gently on it, and it popped back and sealed perfectly against the rubber trim, which stopped rain dribbling down the inside.

    Yep. The mad axe-murderer look.

Many years later I also discovered that the dyes used remained carcinogenic.

Black gloves did the same. So why was it that the dye would leech out of the leather, but not wash off skin?
