Had a few folk ask what I've been doing with all the picon that I've had delivered. So here goes.

Laying picon on gardens here is very traditional, as it looks good and keeps weeds at bay. But the folk who built the house 20 years, skimped on the picon depth. Only about 2", whereas it should be 4" so weeds can't get rooted into the soil. Then everytime you pulled a weed out, you pulled soil up and it mixed with the thin picon layer to make things worse. Also the area by the garage was used as a work area by the builders who built the garage and pergola.

This is how it looked before we started

Most of the garden had deep enough kerbstones to enable us to lay membrane and then new picon. But the roundabout had no spare room, so we had to dig about 5 ton out and barrow it to the back of the house. That took a bit of doing

Some folk just lay 4" of picon which keeps most weeds at bay. But as we were gonna spent about 1.000 on picon, it seemed fair to spend 250 on proper weed mesh stuff.

We did half the garden area first as we ran out of tiles to hold the bugger down I used dozens of 6" nails, but they're just to hold the mesh in place while you lay the picon

The picon is €250 for 12 tons dumped. Or same price for 8 tons delivered in 14 hoppers so it can be placed just where you want it

So as the garage area was furthest from any dump point, we asked neighbours if they could dump the hoppers over their wall.

He put it where you want it, then you clout the opening thingy with a big 'ammer

The next order was for 12 tons, and he dumped about 4 tons on the roundabout, then 8 tons on the top bit of the area we started first

I tried to pull this root out of the roundabout with the car. All 4 wheels spinning. The wagon driver pulled it out with his big hydraulic grab

Averages 28c most days. We've picked cloudy days to work on and started early and done by 1:00.

Suits the vernacular style. It's depressing when you see how far a big load of chippings or concrete doesn't go.

Looks great. Good job you don't have too many cats out there. They'd love that...
