My old friend and training accomplice Beedubya (Brian White) passed away earlier this week after a long struggle with cancer (despite a major, touch and go, operation, it came back and got him).

Most of you probably won't have met him but since there are a couple of older people on here:
    - If you took the RAC/ACU or BMF-RTS training in Newbury or Reading, or their Proficiency Tests in the South of England
    - If you did training with, or visited the BMW dealership in Reading, or attended one of their test days or ride outs
    - In his yoof he was sponsored by one of the Italian factories for racing - but I doubt there are many here that old to have seen him racing!
Then you might have met him.

A couple of 'events' that I've mentioned on here:

My mate BeeDubya used to be a professional sceptic tank tester

I was training one day with BeeDubya, and just couldn't get 'through' to the trainee. As the guy rode off, again, BeeDubya said to me: "He's an ex-squaddie, just give him an order". So I did, the guy almost saluted, then rode off and did it perfectly.

My mate Beedubya managed to upset a driver somehow, who decided to get out of his car and remonstrate. Ignoring, initially, that the bike was alongside him he tried to open his door. Bang! against the old airhead Bimmer's cyclinder head. Next he compounded the error by ignoring the banging noise and trying to open the door harder. Result? Even Louder Bang! Beedubya just kept his right foot down and leant the bike slightly left to take the impact.

    Guy got really upset now . . . so repeated the process . . . Bang!Bang!Bang!Bang!

    Thanks.

We all have to go sometime. He packed in lot into his 82 years, some bad but a lot good.

    Courtesy of the 'wayback machine':

    Riding History:
    Started riding in 1954, passed test in 1959 (4 years in the RAF didn't help . . . ).

Took up trials riding in the winter of 1959, got too wet and muddy so went road racing instead! (It's supposed to be warm and dry in the summer). Rode for 11 years with 2 years works ride with Garelli (an Italian manufacturer), also raced vintage motorcycles.

During this time I became, in 1963, an RAC/ACU instructor and have trained motorcyclists ever since, and became a Proficiency Test examiner in 1974.

    Other Claims To Fame:
Runner-up 'Motorcyclist of the Year Competition, 1964.
Shell Mex & BP Road Safety Award winner.
3 First-Class Awards, Veteran London to Brighton!
Road examiner two years running for London Despatch Rider of the Year (I must have needed my head examined . . . )
