Default Will Apple unlock an iPhone?

We found y Mums iPhone yesterday and tried to unlock it to see what photos she had on there. None of our guesses at her passcode were correct though and now it says its disabled and to connect it to itunes, but her old PC is long gone and if we plug it into my mac it says enter passcode. Is there anyway we can get this unlocked? Would Apple do it if we showed them her death certificate?

From what I've read and seen, yes they have procedures but you'll have to do a lot of hoop jumping, maybe with no success in the end.

There's probably quite a lot of tin foil hat based info out there too, if Apple can do it so can the crims/police/MIB/aliens in Area 51 etc.

My mates (idiot) son has locked himself out of his almost regularly. His mum takes it into the apple store pays 50 and they unlock it. (she may have to produce the original receipt, I've no idea). Idiot son then gets phone given back and told "don't do it again".

I wouldn’t rely on Apple to do anything. A grifty mobile booth can probably do it for next to nothing though.

I'm going to take the phone and a copy of her death certificate into the apple store in covent garden and see if they can do anything, but I noticed her itunes account is in her previous name as she married a couple of years ago, so they probably wont do anything as they wont be able to reconcile the two. I'll try a grifty mobile booth if Apple won't do anything.

Can you get a copy of her marriage certificate? That would join the names together?

Very helpful on how to get it done but won't do it themselves. Put me in touch with a company that does data recovery who would do it, and offered to reset it for free afterwards or tell me how to do it, so its a useable phone again. But I had a eureka moment when I was in there in as much as I remembered I set my Mums phone up on dropbox and set it to sync with her photos etc. It should be easy enough to get into her dropbox account, so mission accomplished, albeit in a different way than expected.

The only way i have got around this is to send Apple proof of purchase, hey will then send you an unlock code, same goes for the very annoying activation lock.

I have a school that has lost all their proof of purchase for the ipads they have so i have about 10 ipads waiting to go in the bin as Apple will not help at all without the proof of purchase. They apparently wipe their records of purchases after 2 years!

It's just another way of Apple getting you to spend more money on another shitty apple product!
