I'd only really seen it in J&S so assumed it was one of their brands, like Oxford... but I've since seen them in other retailers.

In fact I've seen a nice Merlin leather jacket in the local Ducati stealership today.

Whats the Hivemind think of Merlin...

Mid-tier quality kit or over priced lower end crap?

I also spotted a lovely Halvarssons jacket, but it's a smidge more than I wanted to pay.

Out of all the stuff I tried today only Merlin, Halvarssons, RST and Armma (sp?) had arms long enough for my ape like frame (and I aint buying RST).

I was going to wear a lumberjack shirt underneath.

I've looked at several of their wax jackets (full metal hipster I know) and overall they get very good ratings. Sportsbikeshop and urban rider have reviews and revzilla have YouTube and user reviews. Lots of people rate their wax jackets as better than belstaff for less than half the price.

I believe Merlin were set up by the original people behind Frank Thomas before they sold out to J&S.

Sportsbikeshop sell all the Merlin range so check on there as I find the reviews useful.

    I was looking at this.

A guide to the reviews their jackets get as more on here. But made me think they are a decent if hipster brand

I tried that one on too!

I can't decide if I like the waxed style jackets or not.

What was it like? Not seen anywhere that has them in stock so never tried one on. Was tempted to order a few sizes to the MK sportsbikeshop rather than faffing with returning.

Never liked wax jackets before but like that one. Silly question but was it very waxy feeling?

It was a good fit for me, but I didn't like the neck fastening thingy.

I think I like the idea of a jacket i can wear off the bike without looking overly bikey. I found a great Bering jacket but was too tight on the chest

Thats kind of what I want, I've got this thing about neck fastenings tho' and it's only the sports jackets that don't have the flap with the press stud on it.

On a similar subject, I was tempted by the Gold Top stuff being hawked around .... kind of like Lewis Leather but 400 gbp.
then I saw them in the flesh at The Ace Cafe Reunion ...
Hmm... looked like bargain basement leather jackets with red lining. the stitching and finishing was awful....

Think I had one of their heritage line, sort of Belstaff wax jacket thing? IIRC, I found it no good as a casual jacket, too hot and sweaty, but cant remember anything about quality?
