Glad I'm the only one who wasn't that into the Nights Dawn Trilogy, it all got a bit religious for my liking and it was even a bit far fetched for Sci-fi. The Confederate stuff was good as well as the void series.

I flipping loves Neal Asher, it not as highbrow was Hamilton or Reynolds, but it's great action Sci-fi.

Re-reading The Chalk Giants, by Keith Roberts. Landscape, myth, an Austin Champ. What's not to love?

(Nights dawn got very tedious by about page 6 million)

I blew through the first 8 books in a couple of weeks fairly recently, after finding the tv series. The books are excellent, and I enjoyed the TV stuff, but I'm struggling to see how they are going to stay close to the original story tbh.

I reckon the TV series is better than the books. The books are written a bit too teenage boy for my liking, particularly the unnecessarily drawn out and lovingly detailed fight and action scenes. The TV series has a subtler hand in the political stuff and generally more mature writing IMO.

I read the first few books in rapid succession on holiday, I still haven't bothered with the most recent.

If you're a Sci Fi fan and you're not at least a little bit excited about this then frankly there's no helping ya. Work safe.

Almost a guilty secret but I've got a bit of a thing over Shohreh Aghdashloo.
She's 20 years older than me and I'm slightly past the full bloom of youth myself.

there's a massive difference between sciffy (Sci-Fi) and Science Fiction.

The definition of Sci-Fi is (like Star Wars), you can change genre easily i.e it's cowboys and indians with lasers Science Fiction is a different matter and can't change genres easily - nicked from an old book I have on how to write Science Fiction which is massively derogatory of Sci-Fi

I was 6 and Tripods was far too scary!

Then again I thought Star Fleet was scary too.

One of the scariest scifi episodes EVER for me was Space 1999 - Dragon's Domain

Scared me absolutely shitless when I was a young lad, gave me bloody nightmares!!!
