    Question British Icons/ Institutions?

    Firstly, I don't mean buildings or organisations but people who are icons.

    Who are the British icons nowadays? Some people become "Institutions" . From the past I'd suggest Tommy Cooper,
    ric Morecambe/rnie Wise.
    Or sportsmen such as Bobby Moore.
    Geoff Hurst.
    Winston Churchill who surely still is an institution. even some 50 years after he died?
    Margaret Thatcher? Love her or hate her, she was an insitution, an iconic figure was she not?
    Possibly Cilla Black was as well?
    The are are few peiple alive today who have become s iconic as them, if any?
    Sir David Attenborough maybe?
    Sir Paul McCartney.
    Tom Jones maybe?

    Who does the TRC massif think are icons now?

    David Beckham - like him or not he is recognisable in the UK and abroad
    Stephen Hawking

    Only Fools and Horses/Del Boy - fictitious but everyone knows a character similar to him (I think he was responsible for bringing 'cushty' into the English language).
    Fish and chips - very British institution
