When the law is an ass it is wise to call it an ass. Emperor's new clothes..............

    Racism is a crime
Xenophobia appears to have been conflated with racism.
Xenophobia is just as stupid and hateful, but it isn't* racism

    *Except in one stupid law

But it's not a racist slur.

I wonder how you snow flakes identify actual racism?

I understand that, and arguably there's no such thing as racism because there's only one race (human), except of course there is.... and as much as I admire blue collar bigots trying to present themselves as linguistic scholars, it's not too difficult to understand that the legal definition is more important than the etymological when dealing with instances of generalised pejorative remarks.

That's racist. You've singled out a group of people who may all be the same colour, from the same country.

And by your logic, the term 'gammon' must also be racist.

There you go again, trying to legitimise a viewpoint by applying spurious arguments. My "logic" is simple: the law covers it. If you don't like the laws of this country.....

No that's not what I'm doing.

However, if you're only thinking 'law' because you attended the school for the hard of thinking, and are trying to back pedal your way out when called out on your own racism, then the answer is yes, the term gammon is indeed racist.

I really don't know why anyone engages with him when he's in this mode. It's absolutely futile and it's quite evident that he's being a dick just for the sake of it.

You'd have a similar experience trying to teach algebra to a tree stump, but you wouldn't have to put up with the facile and disingenuous noise.*

I understand the legal definition, I would prefer it if there was a law against Xenophobia, I think it's the inner pedant in me.

So, the Bulgarian football team manager has resigned due to the racism of his racist team and racist fans.

It's a bit of a broad definition, since strictly speaking those are forms of bigotry rather than actual racism, which is per se about race or culture. But frankly anyone who thinks it's OK to be bigoted rather than racist is an asswipe anyway. There's an easy answer if someone doesn't want to be called out as a racist, and that's not to act like one.

I would add "language or actions" to the definition BTW.

How big a sample would I need to draw valid conclusions? And if my sample were large enough to be statistically valid would I be a racist if I did draw conclusions and published them?
Calling someone a twat is fair enough if they are acting like a twat. Calling someone a Bulgarian twat is racist.
