    Default 2020 TD Noise Limits - UK

    Looks like the TD Noise police will be uping the game next year - all over the UK.

    Been doing a bit of work with Pembrey at the last few events but am finding some of the new bikes are breaching the limits even with standard ish systems fitted. Ducati V4's / Gixxer 1000's are the latest culprits. What's going to happen when they need MOT's in 3 years time...

    Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and what they've done to possibly solve it.

    Am aware of the normal complaints / winges etc . Going to speak to several manufacturers @ the Bike show

    It doesn't help with the V4's etc, as they're stock and failing.

    But IMO the simple answer to the majority of the issues is "Manufacture standard fitted E approved exhausts only" EVER... No discussion, no debate. It's either as it came out of the crate or it's not allowed. No-one outside of BSB needs the extra 3bph.... or even the extra 10bhp... Stock exhausts or don't even bother turning up.

    Don't forget, the manufacturers make bikes for other markets in mind, not specificially the UK and their track day limits. Will Suzuki care if 100 GSXR1000s don't get sold in the UK next year ? Somehow i doubt it.

    There's LOTS of leftover superbikes from all of the big names in shops, reduced by 10%, 15%, so they're not selling as they used to in the UK at the best of times... So will the big players really care ? Mmmmm

    If its legal to ride on the public road outside the track, it should be legal on track. End.

    Noise isn't measured at the MOT, it's up to the testers discretion, so I doubt any of the modern superbikes will fail MOT's if they've got E-Marked cans on them.

    My GSXR1000 is whisper quiet, even with the Yosh can it came with as standard.

    Simple, yes, good, no. IIRC my SV650 with an aftermarket can is quieter than your stock KTM. And mine is a fair bit lighter than standard and can be replaced if I fall off on it fairly cheaply unlike the stock system which would cost an arm and a leg (if you can get them any more) since the silencer is welded on.

    All it needs is noise tests to be carried out if a particular circuit is inflicted with NIMBYs. Some circuits such as Castle Combe already list a number of bikes where the STANDARD exhaust is known not to pass the noise limit. Noise tests are nothing new, they're a PITA but that's the world today.

    You don't half talk some shite at times So you want to ban race bikes from trackays ?

    Simple answer is, if people don't learn, then trackdays will end... will be binned and everyone loses. I'm bemused how so few people see it.

    Look at Croft, only 2-3 days, Thruxton, 0 days, Castle Combe, only quiet days.... It's only a matter of time.

    What's done trackdays no favours are those tiny bean can style end can like the Austin Racing jobbies. They really do take the piss and as a result, all exhausts get treated the same. Noise limits get tightened and tightened some more. Before you know it, as some have said above, not even standard pipes pass the limit.
