I wonder how close the R1 is power wise to his race bike. 26 years is a lot of development time. I appreciate his race bike was 2t but even so...

Probably similar peak bhp but the modern 4 pot will have a much much broader spread of torque I reckon.

I rode Schwantz RG500 in 1991 at Cadwell. Insane. Padgetts bought it.
Year after they made it road legal. You could hire it for 1,000 a day.

    MCN clocked it 198.

Lawsons best time on a 500GP bike (Cagiva) around Willow Springs was 1.25:00. Twenty years ago a sorted Kaw ZRX1100 (Jap NK-1 Superbike spec) did it in 1.24:87. I think the current (bike) lap record is 1.17.

If you haven't ridden a 500 gp bike, you can't understand how scary they were.

My current GSXR has 202 BHP and not as scary.

Be interesting to see what Cal Crutchlow thinks as he was out on an NSR500 earlier today at Motegi and again tomorrow .... i think it was Lawsons championship winning bike

If it has, the Spanish ones are definitely fitter than the UK ones.
2017-on gixxxers generally seem yo have 180-ish as standard over here, which I can confirm, is still a fuck-load- it's not 202 though

I'll be interested to hear too- My guess, assuming he's tried to go fast on it rather than just tootle around (relative term, one man's tootle etc ), would be
" fuck me that's hard work!"

I don't really have a bucket list, but if I did, No 1 on it would be to have a full day on a Doohan/Gardner NSR at either Catalunya or Jerez, with 20-25 degree ambient temp, no rain (obvs) and Doohan or Gardner with me for the day

From what i read today was a familiarisation session with tomorrow being a bit quicker .... how quick on a historic one off bike might be imposed by HRC

I scared the shit out of myself on a standard road RG500 back in the day as not hugely experienced with 2T bikes so doubtful i would survive a proper one

It will probably be the shortest time he's spent on a bike before wadding it....
