I use the free version of AVG.

Been using it for years with no issues and it works too (ie spots the occasional bug).

It's slightly intrusive as you get pop ups now and then trying to get you to upgrade, which is fair enough, but they're not that regular so it's ok

If she's still getting stuff with AV installed, then it's probably education she needs rather than additional software.

Point well made, if the AV is detecting (and presumably cleaning) the infection then it's not what's at fault.

What I'm trying to say is if Mrs Pietin is getting lots of viruses it's because she's clicking lots of things that she shouldn't without knowing. You don't just get a virus visiting the BBC and SunBingo. She need a guide to spotting dodgy urls and phishing emails.

100%. She follows shopping chanels and click here to view things! I just found the cause of the latest one which was open4u.co.uk. I've blocked that and it's okay again, for now...

Get some adware blockers installed in the browser.

Have a look at Ghostery and Disconnect.

There's a lot of cr@p concealed behind linked 'stories'.

Windows Defender is not an AV product. Even MS accept that.

I use McAfee, and it's cheap. I worked there 8 years and know how good it is

You're a bit out of date with that, Defender does rather well in AV tests these days.

Also is an antivirus product, https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/wind...nsive-security

The problem is your wife, no antivirus/malware stuff will beat her clicking stuff she shouldn't.

    Add in ccleaner and rkill..

Sophos Home is decent enough. Free for 5 systems managed via cloud account. You can set each PC with different levels of protection via webfilter as well.
