Still, mine was a few years before black Wednesday.

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to work out what I meant. I've NEVER bought anything on credit. Apart from houses. I never felt in debt as such as they always made me plenty of money.

I had 4 mortgages at once and the house value were all going up more than the payments.

Oh, so you have bought something on credit.

And now you're marooned on a small volcanic Spanish rock in the Atlantic Ocean inhabited by dodgy ex-pats and served with fizzy 'beer'. lol!

Back in the 1950's, AFAIK anyway, mortgages were usually 15 years. Each time those who make a percentage make it last just a bit longer or get a larger one off percentage.

I've looked at my score through moneysavingexpert.

It's paradoxical - the higher your score the less you need a loan

A while ago I paid a subscription to experian. It told me things about myself that I'd forgotten, such as where I'd lived, who I'd had loans with, who I'd been financially linked to, and what credit checks had happened or were happening. Had there been any, it would have told me about CCJ's and defaulted debt.
I used it for a couple of months to keep track of who was doing credit checks on me while I was applying for mortgages.

I checked mine through experian a few months ago after moving house , changing mortgage twice in a couple of years and with a shit load of debt on loans and credit cards...... was rated "average to good".

Fast forward a few months and all the debt is now gone, no loans, empty credit cards and a new mortgage having moved house yet again and the score comes in at 3 off maximum and "excellent" rating. I also closed some old accounts and removed links i didnt know i still had to my ex wife from 16 years ago.

As slowth says, the less you need a loan the more you score

Not paradoxical really, if you don't need a loan you'll have no trouble paying it off.

Last time I looked my score was about 950. I reckon I'm marked down because I have a relatively low income and marked up because I have no debts apart from credit cards which are always paid off in full each month.
