Download something that can access the S.M.A.R.T on the drive (like seatools) and have a look at the counters.

    Not always.

Some SMART software will actually show you how many errors have been counted...iirc SMART errors only trigger after a certain number of occurrences, on proper SSD's smart can also give an estimate of life left as a percentage.

Forgot what brand disk i had. Smart told me Kingston so downloaded there software what tells my the drive is healthy and not running hot not full (50% ish) so must have another issue. Programs are starting to take an age to open. Paint.net, Thunderbird, Chrome and Brave browser and the browsers more so after the laptop has been asleep. Got plenty RAM also at 8GB and the processor is some AMD A6 7th gen.

    Windows 10?

There's been a few 'buggy' updates that came out about a month ago that cause the Windows Search service to max out the CPU and slow everything down.

    They've improved immensely.

    I have a Dell Mini 9 (a bit of a classic now).

The original 8Gb SSD lasted something over a year - failed just outside warranty. IIRC, there was no warning. One day it worked, the next "operating system not found".

The replacement didn't last much longer.

The third, a 16Gb - I can't remember the manufacturer without taking the back cover off - is still going strong. It must be 7 years old by now.

I kind of assumed you were asking about the SS bit, given that conventional HDs have been around for yonks, and are pretty robust now. It was the NAND that had a reputation for a short life when lots of read / writes were made.

Funny you should say that as its a month or so ago this started however. Did a speedtest and BT speed test. Both were saying i am around 18Mbps down on speed. Checked with cable and had the speed back so some if my issue is speed. I changed the channel from 5 to 11 what helped. Still 5 meg down but that could be the time of evening and still wornt explain the slow program start ups.

Watching the task manager when starting programs the CPU was hitting 100% that is down to between 58-60% after the channel change. Getting there
