    Oops.

Perhaps he took personal advice from Professor "Lockdown" Ferguson and followed the scientific approach advocated therein?

Scientists and politicians are pure chancers by nature, it's no surprise that some of them are also stupid.

    From the Keir Starmer thread.

It may even turn out that lockdowns result in a worse loss of life due to collateral deaths, we just don't know.

My view is that we should not judge until the full facts and picture becomes clear, but supposition is (vaguely) entertaining of course.

Yes, itís absolutely unprecedented in the UK. Demand from banks and pension funds for eligible assets caused the recent madness of paying £5050 now to receive £5000 in three yearís time. It is also seen as a hedge against inflation of significantly more than the negative interest rate, which is even more worrying! Get ready to pay a holding fee to your bank for keeping savings for you while the value of your cash falls. And wait for the banks to go belly up as their income is wiped out paying the government interest for holding bonds. Thatíll be fun.

Negative interest rates donít work, as the Japanese have found for 20+ years. Trumpís very keen on the Fed going negative, but theyíll hopefully resist

He won't need to, he'll just say sorry and then carry on as normal, like this Labour MP...

The drug US President Donald Trump said he was taking to ward off Covid-19 actually increases the risk of patients with the disease dying from it, a study in the Lancet has found.

The study said there were no benefits to treating patients with the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine.

Mr Trump said he was taking the drug despite public health officials warning that it could cause heart problems.

The president has repeatedly promoted the drug, against medical advice.

Hydroxychloroquine is safe for malaria, and conditions like lupus or arthritis, but no clinical trials have recommended the use of hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus.

The Lancet study involved 96,000 coronavirus patients, nearly 15,000 of whom were given hydroxychloroquine - or a related form chloroquine - either alone or with an antibiotic.

The study found that the patients were more likely to die in hospital and develop heart rhythm complications than other Covid patients in a comparison group.

The death rates of the treated groups were: hydroxychloroquine 18%; chloroquine 16.4%; control group 9%. Those treated with hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine in combination with antibiotics had an even higher death rate.

The researchers warned that hydroxychloroquine should not be used outside of clinical trials.

Mr Trump says he has not tested positive for Covid-19 and is taking the drug because he thinks it has "positive benefits".

Much as I dislike/distrust Cummings, the facts appear to be that he and his partner sought childcare for a young child from his sister in law (not grand parents) and drove to the north east to facilitate it. (the north east seems to move 50 miles further away depending on your political viewpoint). They then became very ill and stayed in a separate property.
Sounds reasonable...the child had to be looked after.

Apart from they both had symptoms before leaving London, everyone else in London managed to look after their kids in town, He was attending SAGE so had a huge amount of information about how C-10 spread and then decided the best course of action once he had it was to go stay with his mum and dad, a few days after she lost her brother to it. And then his wife wrote some bullshit story about their lockdown and illness. Even without the nit picking of breaking the rules he was involved with writing, it makes him either a complete fucking idiot or a terrible human being. I think Ferguson had a much better reason to break the rules so if Cummings keeps his job Ferguson should be brought back..

Well enough to drive, but not care for the child? IIRC, Balbas said that there was no way that he was safe to drive to go and get tested.
