Exclusive: Coronavirus began 'as an accident' in Chinese lab, says former MI6 boss

Sir Richard Dearlove tells Telegraph's Planet Normal podcast that new scientific report suggests key elements of the virus were 'inserted'

A former head of MI6 has said he believes the coronavirus pandemic "started as an accident" when the virus escaped from a laboratory in China.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Sir Richard Dearlove said he had seen an "important" new scientific report suggesting the virus did not emerge naturally but was man-made by Chinese scientists.
The apparent discovery will raise the prospect of China paying "reparations" for the death and economic catastrophe wreaked upon the world, the former intelligence chief said. It comes as Beijing faces growing pressure to explain precisely how coronavirus first began to spread late last year.

The rest is behind a paywall...

It appears to go on to say that international scientists however have reached a near unanimous consensus it came from animals.

Only if you are completely naive to the fact that this is all a ploy to solve the pensions crisis.

I thought it was a ploy to get everyone off public transport and into their cars

The original virus probably did. It probably came from a bat or bats.

Then of course, Chinese scientists started playing with it and made it what it is today.

I agree that it is most likely that the virus did not originate in the Wuhan wet market, rather that is where infected worker(s) from the Wuhan Laboratory (which was 'studying' coronaviruses originating in bats) went shopping and by infecting other shoppers started the Covid-19 chain of events.

Anyone thinking China will be paying reparations doesn't understand:-

    a) politics
    b) China
    c) the world economy

At worst expect some heavy tariffs. But also expect a large "fuck you!" to the rest of the world, potential issues with their investments in our infrastructure (Hinckley point anyone...?), massive expansionism in the SE Asia area and possibly (as I posted elsewhere) a land grab in India too.

    HTH.

I kinda lumped that under 'SE Asia' to be honest, but yes, absolutely. They're probably waiting for Trump to commit the US military to a guerrilla war against their own citizens and then they'll go!
