I replaced the WiFi antenna on my HP 15-r110na laptop as the wire had broken where the hinge is.
All was working fine for a couple of days then the laptop wouldn't fire up and you could just see a faint blink of the WiFi light as you pressed the power button.
I took it apart again to investigate but couldn't see anything obvious, then I decided for some reason to unplug the screen cable at the main board end, hey presto it fired up!
I plugged it back in at the main board and unplugged it from the screen end instead and it's back to not firing up.
Any idea what can cause this? There doesn't seem to be any nicks or crimps in the screen cable but it's baffling me that it will only fire up if it's unplugged from the main board?
    Any help appreciated!

If the antenna wire broke in the hings, then it's very likely that the screen ribbon also has duff connections. Replace the screen (or the screen ribbon if possible)

What those two have said, must be screen cable if you can get it to work with it unplugged, or the port either end is damaged.

guess what I'v got to put back together today?

An HP Pavilion G6 with a hinge so fucked it ripped the housing clean off the base and it shorts out the screen if you move it.

I've glued the hinge assembly back down & let it set but dunno about the integrity of the screen cable. wifi was known good.

Linky for where you got the screen cable from please Ade?
