Do you think there will be any? Will there be a backlash against buying Chinese produced goods? Will companies like Apple look to move production away from China?

Or will we all just shrug our shoulders and carry on as before?

If stuff isn't made in China it will cost more.

So I reckon it'll all just carry on like before.

China famously has a terrible human rights record, state sponsored spying and espionage, zero respect for intellectual property and copyright etc. etc.

    Didn't stop people before.

That. And very poor environmental performance which they've improved hugely of late IMO.

FWIW it seems a bit unreasonable to 'blame' them.

Individuals will say that they will stop buying stuff made in China, then they'll realise how difficult / impracticable that is and carry on as before!

US will most certainly be pulling medication production back the US.... Right now the US has no penicillin or aspirin production at all apparently.

There'll be a bit of change for some strategic stuff like pharma I guess

Everything else will carry on as before

Some of the calls for "retribution" are a bit confused. Why? As a punitive measure? Because China are "baddies"? Because people think if we were less reliant on Chinese manufacture we'd be less exposed (how exactly?)

Lots of folk who seem to be keen on paying more for local product until you start asking them what of their standard of living they'd forgo to do that. Then some start blathering about how they're "sure" that if we made everything round the corner we'd "all be better off" and pretend it's not a real choice you'd have to make. At which point it's time to stop listening to them

EDIT: Trump might foment a load of short-sighted nationalistic crap I suppose, depending on how many tens of thousands of Yanks end up dying and how that's going for him electorally. He wouldn't give a shit about long term impacts

A 'friend' on FB posted a meme about how we need to start manufacturing in the UK again, stop using China.

He doesn't realise of course that IF that were to happen we'd NEED all the migrant workers he keeps banging on about 'sending home'

For me I just think, what would be the point?

It wouldn’t make an iota of difference to your susceptibility to diseases coming out of Asia. Just make the country a bit poorer

China wouldn’t give a fuck if the UK stopped buying its stuff, even if that would happen which it never will.

Or put those living on Benefit Street to work. I'd love to stop buying stuff from China but I imagine that's pretty impossible. I guess I could stop buying direct, but then i'd just pay more for my stuff.
