I don't think there's much mobile phone reception until you get out of the Borrowdale Valley. Report here Honister Slate Mine

A chap on the news earlier commented on the vicinity being a comms black spot. All sounds frightfully good fun, apart from the marathon bit.

I knew that about the place. I learned it on this Brittish web site that I log on to. Oh, yeah, that would be right here.
Honestly though, 900 lost in Umbria? Stephen King could get away with a headline like that, not the Beeb.

The way I heard it reported was that there were 1500 unaccounted for which meant that they had started the race but not been counted in at the end, there were a lot less stranded on the hills though.

Hmm - that story hasn't been updated by the beeb since 8pm last night. Which must mean non-event and they're trying to let it go away quietly .

Reuters has "all runners accounted for safely" story tucked away under UK.

So thx for the media scare, folks . This scare was brought to you on TRC by Pax, doom-mongering for free .

Quite glad I didn't go as it happens.

Mind I've been suffering with manflu instead. Running a right old fever too. Given the choice I'd rather have been healthy and sheltering in a mine than shivering in bed.

Just read this article by Richard Askwith about mountain marathons and the like. It would appear the competitors themselves have a very different definition of being lost

God I hate ramblers. It's a walk in the English countryside FFS, everyone's bloody Ray Mears these days.
