Been to the introductory meeting with these guys to night

Welcome to SERV Herts and Beds | Herts & Beds

My hasn't it come on from when I did something similar in the late '70s early '80s. Although everything is done by volunteers there is so much red tape that the law now requires and each piece of red tape comes with a fee. One example, human blood is a hazardous material according to the law so everyone must go on a training course and be certificated and registered if passed and all this must be paid for.

So like a trusty nappy I'm on the bum. Can the TRC massive come up with some kind of fund raising event / thing. I've no experience of fund raising.

Ideas please, humour is also acceptable

So you volunteer to help and you have to pay for shed loads of courses?

The very first thing is a request for 25 quid to register as a volunteer

    About par for the course.
When I lived in Suffolk I responded for East Of England Ambulance with these guys:
First Response (East of England) - Honington
and paid 8 a month for the privilege IIRC.
And when we weren't responding on a sat we were shaking a tin at supermarkets.

Will get my thinking cap on - I note they cover a lot of areas, including one over our way.

Gotta be something I can organise with a few others to raise a few pounds

I think Dan Dangerous has something to do with the blood runners in his area following a post by Tazzie wanting a lift on his blue light bike

SERV have bikes equipped with blue lights as classed as emergency vehicles operating under the National Blood Service

Not unusual if it has blue lights, surely?

Yes there are a few, Herts/Beds expect to take delivery of their first one later this month. At the moment all the bikes are the riders who also pay for the petrol and all associated running costs. Its a long time ago now but I think we used to get a small payment in the old days roughly equal to the petrol cost, it was a long time ago, I may be wrong.

The pan would need modifying to carry the approved box.

I always think the things where someone gets something out of it as well as making a donation works well.

Example - Curry night for the RNLI, I volunteered to cook, couple of people offered to help cook and serve, so that meant people paid 12 for a slap up meal in the local pub. Take out the cost of the food itself and that was a good money for the RNLI. The pub charged full price for drinks but then gave a donation based on sales on the night to the RNLI, again all good (it meant the pub could be seen as doing their bit, enhances their image, got them a write up in the paper and they didnt make a loss on the deal so they are more then happy to do it again). There was a raffle that night, also a money raiser for the RNLI (people were asked to donate presents if they could and many did).

All in all everyone had a good night. Without a single exception all of them said they would come to the next one and most asked if there was going to be more tickets for the next one. Could we have raised that kind of money another way? Yes, possibly. Could we raise that amount of money 6 times a year, almost guaranteed another way? I doubt it.
